Development using IBM WebSphere Integration Developer and Process Server - Part 1

Overall the process of working with other development staff has been very insightful. We are during developing a Proof of Concept using WID and Process Server which will integrate a web application with a pre-existing business service implemented in Natural on the mainframe.

While I am not a big fan for the static binding with SCA there are some ways to migrate some of the issues associated with this.

I will be blogging in the near future our results and some general observations that I have.

Tomorrow I begin my quest as the Software Architect responsible for delivering my company's Intranet Portal using the IBM Product suite.

To be honest I find the IBM product suite as a whole to still be very rough around the edges. The lack of integration between the products makes me very nervous.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

BTW...If you are like me and have a problem remembering passwords then check out this site which provides some options for generating passwords...it's pretty sweet.

Random thoughts and observations of a disturbing world:

1.) Coldfusion 5 sucks. We continue to get these ? mts: {mts_append_large_block}failed to update
index of memory pages." errors which causes the CF Server to restart on a daily basis. I have tried everything in the TechNotes but no dice. Everyone's answers seems to be move to Coldfusion MX..blah..blah..blah

2.) The Blaze Advisor product has no way to control database connections for Mapped Classes. After to calls to their tech support I have been told they are working on connection pooling in their next release.(Sound familar to you??)

3.) I wonder how many days I can take of and go fishing each week?

4.) Damn I still miss Tupac..

This is the day before my 32nd birthday and therefore I am forced to reflect on my 11 years in IT.
I started as a Software Engineer with EDS(COBOL/JCL/DB2) and I am now a Sr. Software Engineer(or Jr. Software architect depending on who you ask - J2EE/.Net)with a student loan guarantor.

Speaking of Student Loans..I received a notice from Sallie Mae notifying me that all of my student loans are now paid off...SWEET!!

Here's a fact that most of you won't like...73% of all business code is still written in COBOL!!

I am still getting calls from IT headhunter regarding Mainframe contracts.

What's Cool...
1.) J2EE/.Net(take your pick)
2.) Rules-Based Processing
3.) SOA
4.) Ant(Although I'm really starting to dig Maven)

What's wack...
1.) Natural/ADABAS(Still..)
2.) Mainframe adapters(CICS transaction based)
3.) Coldfusion
4.) XDoclet(Sorry I just don't like putting anything besides comments in JavaDoc)

Random thoughts and observations of a disturbing world...

1.) Everyone lies on their resume.

2.) Does anyone read this lame blog?

3.) Does it matter if no one reads this blog?

4.) Damn I still miss Tupac..

Random thoughts and observations of a disturbing world...

1.) I am I the only one who could really give a damn about "Ben and J-LO"?

2.) "I am Peter Pan....in my heart I will always be Peter Pan" - Michael Jackson

3.) Could this be the worst movie ever made: The Adventures of Pluto Nash

This movie makes Ishitar look like Gone With The Wind!!

4.) 310lbs Rosie O'Donnell's collapses...

Why do I find this funny??

5.) Damn I still miss Tupac!!

The trial and tribulations of a Sr. Software Engineer continues..

I'm feeling pretty surly today. The so-called "Project Manager" has planned 3 meetings a week(2 hours per meeting) until 2/26/03 to discuss the business requirements for a project that will that maybe two weeks to implement.

The levels ineptitude and overall inefficiency are absolutely mind boggling.

The Dilbert Principals are in full effect. At one of the three meetings I was forced to endure today a Business Analyst read the requirement document(all ten pages) aloud.

I'm pretty sure everyone in the meeting was literate, yet she continued to read away.

The Natural/Adabas is weak, holding on to that arcane technology is like the folks in the 18th Century who held onto their "Horse and Buggies". After all those new fangled motorized buggies would never catch on right?

What's Cool: Business Rule Engines, Java (with non-blocking IO), XML(Still) and ESB

What Sucks: EFML(Don't ask..), ColdFusionMX's Java integation, .Net Web Forms generated code, Visual Basic(Still)

My .02...
